Disability, an added value to the Art
The young painter from Padua, Thomas Prearo, was born on 09.08.1982
in the picturesque Euganean Hills. He lives and works in Galzignano
Terme. Thomas, an artist with disabilities, had already showed aptitudes
towards the use of colours at a very young age, which were enhanced and
developed during his school years. He attended the Art Institute “Pietro
Selvatico” in Padua where he was directed towards the specialization in
”Painting and Decoration”. During his first years in the Institute he was
guided by Professor Cristina Boaretto, a person whom with he has a
special bond. She has managed, regardless all the difficulties, to give him
a good foundation that has proved to be very useful later in his works.
After finishing school in 2006, he came into contact with the Art’s critic
Gabriella Niero, who, after seeing over fifty of his paintings decided to
expose some of them at the exhibition “Emergent painters” at S.Vidal
Art’s Gallery in Venice . It was his first exposition and from that moment
Thomas has started his professional career, exposing in Italy and abroad.
The artist uses the ‘Stream of thought’ technique to extract images from
his canvas, without having the perception of what it will become and
the result comes out almost immediately. Only after the image has been
completely defined, a title is given to the painting. In some cases images
that represent faces can be seen in his paintings.

At the 1° “Biennale della Creatività” at Verona 2014 inaugurated by
Vittorio Sgarbi in presence of his godmother Katia Ricciarelli and art
critics Paolo Levi, Thomas expressed on stage his thoughts on art
and disability: “Even those with disabilities can make art”.
